Over the past several years the composition of the local workforce has been changing and is reflective of the Region's population make up. In 2009 the immigrant population made up over 22% of the overall population. The pace of change in population and workforce will increase significantly as boomers reach retirement age. It is projected by Statistics Canada that by 2011 immigration will represent 100% of net workforce growth.
Many of our area employers have embraced hiring ITIs to address the shortage of skilled and professional talent, to help in penetrating new foreign markets and to provide effective customer service in the global arena. A few employer ITI success stories are provided below as examples of the added value they can and do bring to grow business for their employers.
