The need for significant talent in the Waterloo Region is exemplified by the Technology Community need for some 2000 – 2500 tech savvy people to fill existing vacancies and new growth related positions. Add to this, very robust finance and manufacturing communities and the need for new, particularly knowledge / creative based talent is immediate and critical. The following strategies have been used to attract immigrants to Waterloo Region to address the employer hiring needs.
Immigrant Web Portal
The portal provides information on employment opportunities in Waterloo Region based on employer defined needs.
Develop Networks
Build and access networks that will assist in attracting well qualified immigrants to come and stay in Waterloo Region. In direct response to address acknowledged employer talent needs an environmental scan was undertaken. The scan was part of the project called Professional Immigrant Network (PIN) and was made possible through funding support from the Assisting Local Leaders with Immigrant Employment Strategies (ALLIES). The goal is to reach and communicate with high functioning professional individuals who may not access formal service provider services while looking for work and settling in Waterloo Region.

Programs have been initiated to reach out to selected communities and attract immigrants to Waterloo Region from the Greater Toronto Area.

Work with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to present Waterloo Region as an attractive option for immigrant entrepreneurs interested in starting their own business.
